Cirrus Autopilot Management Mastery Is Often Overlooked
Sometimes overlooked in value during transition training is the Autopilot Management task. This task is part of every transition training syllabus and equals in importance to stick and rudder skills. While flying in IMC or other high workload situations autopilot management mastery is a must in any Cirrus pilot’s toolbox. A special thanks to COPA, especially Trip Taylor, for the Command and Control presentation. The presentation focused on autopilot management strategies, levels of automation and practical applications of using autopilots effectively. During transition or recurrent training CSIPs should test their students decision making and autopilot management mastery by crafting scenarios that may force the pilot to revert to varying levels of automation.
Cirrus Airframe and Avionics Differences Courses Now Available
Avionics Differences and Airframe and Powerplant Differences courses are now available in the Cirrus Approach Learning Portal catalog for Cirrus Pilots who have previously completed transition training but are now moving into a new avionics or Cirrus model. Perspective versions of the courses are $100 while Avidyne courses are now $75. POHs or FOMs are not included with these courses, but can be purchased separately if desired from the Cirrus Connection Store.
Air Show Changes This Fall
If you’re like me: a pilot who likes to attend air shows and industry conventions… there’s been some changes in the schedule this year.
As you may have heard, AOPA is no longer doing their annual huge “AOPA Expo” on alternating coasts, instead they are doing several smaller regional ones. The west coast event is at Chino (KCNO) on September 20, 2014. Visit their page here.
Since the AOPA change of strategy leaves a void for a large convention (other than Oshkosh of course), Flying Magazine has decided to do their own event – in Palm Springs, from Oct 31 to November 2. This aims to fill the void, complete with a Parade of Planes through the streets on the day prior. Visit their announcement here.
And as always, if you’re in search of expert Cirrus flight training, please look around my site and then contact me to discuss your goals.
